The historic events unfolding in Syria today reflect the continued, legitimate struggle of the Syrian people for freedom and dignity. For over five decades, the Assad regime has inflicted untold suffering upon the Syrian people. More than one million have been killed, 12 million displaced, and an entire nation devastated—all to maintain the grip of Bashar al-Assad, just as his father, Hafez al-Assad, did before him.
The Syrian revolution for democratic change remains central to the broader quest for Arab freedom that began with the Arab Spring. Syria’s fate is deeply intertwined with the Levant’s history and future. This struggle for liberation also resonates with other regional quests for justice, particularly for Palestinians. These movements are interconnected and mutually reinforcing; the liberation of one Arab people uplifts the collective liberation of all.

To the United States and international allies, we urgently call for:
1. Increased Humanitarian Aid: Surge assistance to newly liberated areas to address urgent needs and support affected communities.
2. Civilian Protection: Coordinate efforts with NATO ally Turkey and other partners to safeguard civilians and ensure humanitarian access.
3. Diplomatic Pressure on Russia and Iran: End the bombardment of civilian areas, particularly in Idlib, and prevent further campaigns of terror, especially against Aleppo.
4. Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254: Pave the way for a transitional governing body representative of Syria’s diverse stakeholders to oversee a peaceful, democratic transition that secures freedom, dignity, and justice for all Syrians.
We also urge the US and Turkey to collaborate closely to ensure that opposition groups they support, including the Syrian Democratic Forces, avoid conflict, de-escalate tensions, and peacefully resolve differences. Such cooperation would improve security, economic stability, and Syrians' livelihoods while addressing legitimate regional security concerns.
